My Xsara Picasso 1.6HDi was averaging 52.6mpg before its last service and dropped down to 46.2 almost immediately afterwards. I did then re-set the trip computer, but I've done that before and it still climbed to over 50mpg within a very short time. Now, after about 1,500 miles, I've managed to get it up to 49.6mpg with some very careful driving.

Check the power feed with a proper 12v fillament bulb test light, not a multimeter or LED test light, it can still show 12v/light the LED but not enough current to light the bulb or power the fuel pump. Turn the key into the “run” position—rather than starting it—and then back to the locked position. Do this several times in a row. Once you’ve cycled the key enough times, you’ll usually hear a chime or some other sound, after which you can press the lock or unlock button on your key fob, which will result in another chime.
